you have to sleep to rif taramelli: silence, and (weather permitting) views a starry sky. rifugista (and help) friendly, helpful and welcoming. is Spartan (not too much anyway). Bonus: cell phones don't take ... bring to read!

You get to shelter from the parking lot at 1 km from the Crucifix in about 1-1.5 hours on roads mostly paved. If you want you can also take the shuttle from the Crucifix up to Malga Monzoni but ... isn't that why you go hiking! Easy walk on average ascent in the middle of Woods. The shelter is in an enviable position, on a spur of rock at the junction of several paths. Don't expect but a hotel: it's very small, very basic, but in my opinion for this breathes the atmosphere of true mountains. It is run by the University of Trento for which alternate every week of young volunteers: whereas they do not take any money and that they are not professionals, it takes a bit of indulgence (and admiration for the sacrifice). There is obviously much offer of dishes but ... worth it

We stopped for lunch, coming down from the pass of saddles. The menu included only a few dishes (good thing), but despite this the quality of the food was really poor! Some things were horrid! Not only! Despite having few customers, we waited long before lunch! The courtesy of the staff. Next time we will stop the Monzoni.

  • Cosy cabin in a nice and strategic position. Easily reachable from Pozza di Fassa (3h) or Passo San Pellegrino (5h). Lodging is not expensive. Kitchen was good. The history of the building is also interesting, and interiors maintain original woods and furnitures. Surely recommended for a daily trip or one night stay to explore the mountains around (e.g. Vallaccia peak)
  • Refuge tried immediately after the chocolate festival, experiencing so delicious sweets made from cocoa. On the menu I could appreciate that even first and second courses in that period were cooked and garnished with chocolate. Must try the strüdel in glass. From passo selle is not hard to get to but between roundtrip you contar a couple of hours.

  • Little hut which, however, has the charm of yesteryear. Beautiful forest surrounding it. Eat simple but genuine. Good for a stop at the end of the Monzoni Valley before the climb to saddle Step 2,530 history (with the namesake hut), which dominates the underlying Passo San Pellegrino, known for fierce fighting during the first world war.
