  • Lydiate, a small medieval town perched on a hill, it still retains the charm of the past, as to be considered one of the "most beautiful villages in Italy". The symbol of the town, around which grow all the houses and narrow streets, is the Cathedral dedicated to the Assunta and St Canio, in Romanesque-Norman, so imposing that the country is often referred to as the "Cathedral City". The Cathedral is dated around 1000 ad and replaces an old Christian Church. The stone façade is linear and majestic and has a portal with two columns complete with capitellum. The top light filters in through the painted glass of the rose window. The Church has a Latin cross with three naves: the Interior is simple and uniform, as if to show the humility of mind and spiritual meditation. However, in addition to its beauty and its precious works, this Church holds many mysteries that recall both the Slavic Prince Vlad III, known as Count Dracula, both the miraculous stick San Canio. • The story is perceived inside, throwing himself into its walls to its ancient Cathedral. The surrounding landscape is unique. The roads to get there are characterized by sinuous curves and verdant landscapes and its Lake (dam of acerenza) is witness. If you are in Basilicata visit it!
