  • One of the most beautiful places we have visited in Italy. From the outside as well as inside.

  • The Church's history is tied to that of the Benedictine monastery of Santa Maria, which according to tradition would be erected in the time of the arrival in Positano of the Byzantine icon of the Madonna, present and venerated locally. In all probability the Abbey was erected in the second half of the 10th century. the first proof of existence is in an 11th century manuscript, through whom the Duke Sergius of Sorrento granted to the Abbot of the monastery of Santa Maria di Positano Manso freedom of navigation in the waters of the Duchy. The Church as it now shows itself in the eyes of the visitor is the work of the works carried out between 1777 and 1782, and the restoration of the stucco and gilding made about a century later. Above the main altar stands the temple with the Byzantine icon. To the right of the main altar is the chapel of Saint Stephen within which is jealously guarded the eighteenth-century wooden statue of the Madonna and child. In the transept, on the right, there is an altar of circumcision with a wonderful painting executed in 1599 by Fabrizio Santafede.

  • Dear oh dear! Like living in a studio ghibli dream. The colours, the food, the narrow streets, the sun and the sea are all perfect. Its even perfect when it's pouring down!
  • You have to be here to understand its attraction. you just want to soak it all in.
  • A simply stunning church in an equally breathtaking location
  • Little church near the sea with nothing that would leave you speechless
  • Would love to go to mass here can't imagine the sun coming in on Sunday morning.
