  • Through an uphill walk to the castle on the Summit. The building itself does not constitute anything architecturally significant. What absolutely deserves and which justifies the high estimation is the amazing view both sides on Portofino, the port, the sea, the surrounding creeks. A landscape that fills the eyes of sunshine, love for nature and for the picturesque village, that makes us forget its connotation of tourist destination for the elite.

  • The castle is located in Via the peninsula on the promontory of Portofino Bay. We start from Piazza Martiri Olivetta's to reach the Church of San Giorgio. From here stretches the beautiful path that leads to Punta del Capo. Along the way you can see wonderful palaces and villas that are placed perfectly in the lush vegetation (pine trees, olive trees, yews, etc.), there are many benches that allow you to relax and enjoy the view and, above all, before arriving at the lighthouse, the Brown Castle also known as Castle of San Giorgio. On the ruins of a Roman watchtower of the 2nd-3rd century AD, the castle was built originally as a fortress, exclusively for defensive purposes, as early as the 10th century, and later in the first half of the 15th century. During the following centuries, until the first half of the EIGHTEENTH century, underwent several renovations during the Republic of Genoa, the Duchy of Milan and the Napoleonic domination. Only in 1870, after being purchased and restored, it became residence of the British Consul in Genoa Sir. Montague Yeats Brown. In 1949 it was sold by the heirs to spouses from 1961 the fortress is Baber British owned by the municipality. The exterior is rich in reliefs, marble or slate ornaments and Gothic Windows. The Interior is very luxurious: architectural furniture fixtures on the walls and furniture, the lintels of slate and wooden gates and wrought iron railings. Finally, it's worth coming here just for the breathtaking view over the Bay of Portofino and in general the Gulf of Tigullio.

  • Pay for view Nice view and that's what you pay for. I honestly don't quite get the vibe of Portofino. Do people like it because the wealthy liked it?
  • If you're in Portofino for more than a day you really should spend the 5 euros and climb up to the castle. The views of the town and Rapallo from the patio were awesome plus the fee helps maintain the place. Nothing too fancy here but I don't get to walk around in 500 year old buildings very often. If you've come this far, go out to the lighthouse at the very end for more beautiful views but beware, the Lighthouse Pub is closed on Wednesdays. That happened to be the day we went.
  • A short walk up the hill to this castle. The Euro 5 is worth as there are not many people visit and as you walk around the castle, it feels like you are living there. Lovely panoramic views of the area
  • Great view from the Castle. Entrance is 5 Euro.
  • A great walk and beautiful gardens, with amazing views. Quiet building. $5 euros.
