Portovenere, Porto Venere
(4.8/5 based on 1,900+ reviews on the web)
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997, Portovenere is a part of a series of villages called Cinque Terre connected by train and a walking path that follows the coastal cliffs. It takes a few hours to get from one end to the other, so break up your walk with stops for wine and antipasto. For the best views, take a ferry between the villages. You can visit a number of historic churches, some built as early as the 12th century, such as St. Peter's Gothic cathedral. Lord Byron spent some time in the area and added to its romantic appeal with his stories. Make Portovenere part of your personalized Porto Venere itinerary using our Porto Venere itinerary builder.

  • In the off-season, the village is quiet. Good atmosphere. Good starting point for the Cinque Terre in boat.

  • Beautiful location a few kilometres from La Spezia. Difficult to describe the atmosphere ... you have to go there to understand. The castle is something unique and exciting

  • Typical village perched over the sea, offers some fantastic views of the sea and splendid walks in the village full of little restaurants and shops.
