Neighborhood
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 1997, Portovenere is a part of a series of villages called Cinque Terre connected by train and a walking path that follows the coastal cliffs. It takes a few hours to get from one end to the other, so break up your walk with stops for wine and antipasto. For the best views, take a ferry between the villages. You can visit a number of historic churches, some built as early as the 12th century, such as St. Peter's Gothic cathedral. Lord Byron spent some time in the area and added to its romantic appeal with his stories. Make Portovenere part of your personalized Porto Venere itinerary using our Porto Venere itinerary builder.

  • Portovenere is the last village where the genovese. Ancient-Roman origin, preserve churches and ruins of the Castle not to be missed. We recommend that you visit the village in spring and autumn when the tourist flow is less. Excellent restaurants are not always cheap but quality makes the difference.

  • Expensive parking, take advantage of the local media. To visit in the off-season and off we for a relaxing experience. Go to the Church of San Pietro and look out for the tiny balcony overlooking the sea. Visit the center of the country. Very quaint. Quite expensive for the normal pockets.

  • From La Spezia in about 20 min you arrive in Portovenere, already the road to get there is notable especially in motion. Then once you dine in one of the many restaurants just a few meters from the sea. Really a nice place to spend an enjoyable day.
