  • I've been visiting the Royal Palace of Portici in November and, to be honest, I was very disappointed because much of the site is to be recovered ... so much things to do! The neoclassical Palace of Portici was built in 1738 as a summer residence of the Bourbon Royal family. Built on the slopes of Vesuvius, has still a large forest, which was used for hunting, and an ornamental that is located downstream. Among the artists who worked on its construction include Luigi Vanvitelli and Ferdinando Fuga. In 1872 the Palace and the park were assigned to the Royal High School of Agriculture within the upper garden, the Botanical Garden founded in 1935 to become the Faculty of agriculture, University of Naples Federico II. I hope so much beauty is not permanently left completely abandoned because, apart from the area used by the University shall be kept well, the rest deserves attention and protection. I hope to revisit it in a different light. Too bad.

  • The Royal site of Arcades, the current seat of the Faculty of agriculture, was built as a summer residence of the Bourbon Royal family and his court and later as a place of accumulation of archaeological finds from nearby Herculaneum and Pompeii. Placed at the foot of Vesuvius has a wood top, originally dedicated to hunting, now home to an important Botanical Garden and one downstream, most ornamental type, extended to the sea but that he lives a long and interminable time restoration and reclamation in many areas forbidden to the public. The upper floors are accessed by a staircase and what strikes the visitor is the decoration of the walls with architectural perspectives and faux allegorical sculptures and wealth of times all decorated. There is a succession of salt where are preserved interesting finds entomological and botanical, mineralogical,. a collection of optical instruments, surveying and measurement. Inside the Real site you can also admire the wonderful Herculanense Museum which traces, through multimedia systems, what was the activity in the field of archaeology. In the various rooms you can see reproductions of works that have long been kept in the Archaeological Museum of Naples. It is advisable to contact the Secretariat of the MUSE phone: 081. 2532016 E-mail: segreteria@centromusa.it for more information and dates for any events and tours

  • The Royal Palace of Portici, built by the Bourbons were overwhelmed by the area after being housed in the nearby villa d'elboeuf, is older than that of Caserta. Subsequently the nobles had built other residences in the vesuvian area, the so-called golden mile. Some rooms of the Royal site are special, others less so and unfortunately there is neglect. There are even small exposure to insects, minerals, animals, plants, scientific instruments. Very beautiful façade on the grassland, in the lower Park characterized also by a forested part. In front of the old Prairie agricultural and fruit trees well manicured. The Park wood bottom as well as the extensive botanical gardens that occupies the top edge, and on the other side of the Palace, but give a sense of abandonment but are rich in plants. The upper Park was hunting area. After the Bourbons became agricultural college and later was part of the Faculty of agriculture. In the Palace there is the ercolanense Museum that, like the botanical gardens, are not always open to the public. Porches also has other attractions, shame about the lack of care.
