The visit to the castle is recommended for children and adults, who will appreciate the many halls and the ancient stairs that involuntarily reminds a bit Escher a bit Hogwarts. An incredibly detailed diorama remembers the battle of Campaldino, decisive for the fate of Florence and fought in the immediate vicinity. Dante took part, and in fact his proud portrait greets us at the entrance, and fixate Severus.

We visited the castle of Poppi in day of August. The visit, with the audioguide, is very well structured and allows you to see and understand the structure and the history of the Castle. It also describes an epic battle with a beautiful model that really gives you the feeling of living those dramatic moments. Enjoyed the whole family (two adults and two children ages 15 and 18 years), also accessible to animals.

The medieval town of Poppi is a walled city at the top of which stands the Castello dei Conti Guidi. It is surrounded by walls with Guelph battlements. The front door has the coat of arms of the Guidi. Not to be missed inside, the chapel of the Guidi counts with a cycle of frescoes attributed to Giotto, Taddeo Gaddi, student but to see undoubtedly the rich library of hundreds of medieval manuscripts.

  • Castello di Poppi has a great history. Loved the prisons which you enter where you really feel the history. Could come right from an episode of GOT!
  • Great cafe right next to the castle and good views all around. A glass of wine at the castle is 1.5 euro
  • You should visit it. Very nice place with fantastic views...
