  • The first evidence of the existence of the castle is a deed of purchase dated 1028, another act of 1163 attesting to the property to the monastery of San Savino at Piacenza, maintained until 1453 when it was given to the family riminese of Mac that he kept over the centuries up to the present owners Pandya their descendants. Heavy destruction in 1216 suffers because of Pali and parmigiani and in 1247 by the troops of the emperor Frederick II to repair what the Abbot provides in 1280 to works reconstruction and strongly articulated, Complex Tower upward of trapezoidal shape, is completely surrounded by walls, which are placed against the buildings, and by a wide moat still filled with water. It is divided into two sectors separated by a wall, one in the South, with a large square surrounded by outbuildings: stables, barns, porches and the labourers ' dwellings; the other, to the North, in turn divided into two courtyards: one with the Manor House, the well, the Tower maggiore and other dwellings; the other with the Chapel and the building through which you enter the garden. Access, on the South side, is protected by a massive dungeon which leads the takings of two drawbridges, one for the walkway and the other for wagons. The towers, all square but of different shape and size, are four distributed along the walls erratically. The unusual placement of the North Tower placed outside the walls but inside the moat. The oldest part is the oratory dedicated to Saint Mary, later incorporated in the residential Palace. Dating back to the early Middle Ages presents an original Greek cross plan, divided into nine bays covered by vaults. Four thin stone columns with capitals and Pier caps, different invoice, divide the sections. The masonry is made of pebbles bound with mortar, brick buildings which are all different from each other. The Castle, which is open to visitors on Saturdays from May to October, or by appointment during the week, has for a decade, the exhibition dedicated to the ancient fruit varieties of plants, flowers and fruits that are in danger of disappearing. Is part of the Association of the castles of the Duchy of Parma and Piacenza.

  • Castle in excellent condition. Imposing and with water-filled moat fed by natural springs. Next to the via Francigena. Wonderful location for the event of ancient fruits, to be rediscovered annually to go looking for fruits and flavors of traditional agricultural and craft now in extinction. Commendable initiative.
