Villa dei Misteri, Pompeii

Categories: Architectural Buildings, Historic Sites, Tourist Spots
Inspirock Rating:
4.7/5 based on 600+ reviews on the web
Ancient Pompeii's most famous structure, Villa dei Misteri is a remarkably well-preserved ruin of a Roman villa noted for its vibrant wall paintings. The structure sustained only minor damage from the infamous eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE, and remained covered by a thick layer of ash and soil for nearly two millennia. Excavation on one of the most stunning finds in the ancient city started in 1909, revealing a series of rooms filled with virtually undamaged columns, mosaics, frescoes, and relics of everyday life. Restored and reopened to visitors in early 2015, the elegant suburban villa provides a rare look at the splendor enjoyed by Pompeii's wealthy families. • In allusion to the Villa of the mystery _Hotel, reviews aparte__ takes lent the name of a villa owned by such a Zosimus a so-called liberto or former slave who was devoted to the commercialization of herbs, and other businesses in the field of agriculture. The place is in its stretch away from the Amphitheater or Colosseo Pompeian. As if it were an altarpiece is read from left to right. Supposedly, it's a rite of passage in the style of the fertility cults. However, very large House, houses perhaps, side rake, that ended this holiday of wine of the Vesuvius and mixtures with ergot and poppy, secrets of enervation of the senses and his commercial gain. _ Nero imposed a tax on urine in that the fulonicas or lavandetias used you're excresion__ trading as, which was not unknown, for the owner or owner of the mansion. The Pompeian graffiti of all kinds and place, are also present in Musterio Villa. There is a caricature of a political called Rufus, possible regular and active member of what happen in triclinios, between nude dancers and the dawn of the orgiastico rite. Any resemblance to the present time... is purely coincidental.

  • Is often departed from the excavations, but could be considered as the final round gem of the city already burried. Good conservation status, although the road for access could be better maintained. Some more information would be nice, so as to enjoy more of this rare beauty.

  • I think it was at the end of the ruins. The location's vivid paintings of many. The scene involved in the ritual and everyday life rather than looks. Mister put only the believers the secret room.

  • Amazing preserved frescoes from 79AD. Worth the walk from the centre of the pompeii ruins, especially near the end of the day when it's nearly empty. This can be accessed easily by exiting the ruins near the gift shop and following the external road (go right) around the outside of the ruins and re-enter the park just adjacent to this site at the next entrance (follow Google maps directions).
  • One of the best buildings in Pompeii and also one of the quietest as it is a long way from the entrance
  • 4/5 mysteries, would recommend.
  • We were only be able to peek into one room of this large villa, but definitely the best paintings!
  • Very nice painting
