Villa dei Misteri, Pompeii
(4.6/5 based on 650+ reviews on the web)
Ancient Pompeii's most famous structure, Villa dei Misteri is a remarkably well-preserved ruin of a Roman villa noted for its vibrant wall paintings. The structure sustained only minor damage from the infamous eruption of Vesuvius in 79 CE, and remained covered by a thick layer of ash and soil for nearly two millennia. Excavation on one of the most stunning finds in the ancient city started in 1909, revealing a series of rooms filled with virtually undamaged columns, mosaics, frescoes, and relics of everyday life. Restored and reopened to visitors in early 2015, the elegant suburban villa provides a rare look at the splendor enjoyed by Pompeii's wealthy families. Plan your visit to Villa dei Misteri and a wealth of other attractions, well-known and undiscovered, using our Pompeii itinerary planner.

  • If you visit the ruins of Pompeii, is a must visit "Villa of the mysteries" which is located near the archaeological site of Pompeii. It is the best preserved part of the site, painted with scenes of daily life in ancient Rome, nearly two thousand years of history perfectly preserved by the eruption of Vesuvius 79 a.d. date. Absolutely recommended.

  • It is spectacular to see these ruins are unfortunately not rightly emphasized, but it's a great opportunity you can visit

  • Always great especially for the wonderful paintings that adorn. A little outside the urban area worth the trouble.

  • Given the vast amounts of artifact found in Pompei, we were very disappointed at the extreme lack of these artifacts still remaining at the Pompei archaeological site. Italy needs to implore the museums of the world to return stolen artifacts, then build a museum to display them near the site.
  • Amazing preserved frescoes from 79AD. Worth the walk from the centre of the pompeii ruins, especially near the end of the day when it's nearly empty. This can be accessed easily by exiting the ruins near the gift shop and following the external road (go right) around the outside of the ruins and re-enter the park just adjacent to this site at the next entrance (follow Google maps directions).
  • The least broken place in Pompei. Groups are not going there cause is the furtherst place so you'll have to visit it yourself. But it 100% worth it
  • Nice place certainly worth the Walk!
  • Nice village inside of the Pompeii ruins
