Pompeii Archaeological Park
Pompeii Archaeological Park, a World Heritage site, was once a thriving Roman city. The famous cataclysmic eruption of the nearby Mount Vesuvius in 79 CE destroyed it, as well as nearby Herculaneum, Stabiae, Oplontis and part of Boscoreale. When the volcano erupted, the entire settlement was covered with a deep layer of ash. Nearly 3,000 people died that day, and the ash quickly settled, preserving the city in almost its original state. Today, this is an open-air museum of the everyday life as it must have been when the ancient Roman civilization flourished here. Among the thousands of objects perfectly preserved by ash are ceramic pots, jewelry, furniture, and frescoes. This place is really a unique and amazing expired, it is worth every euro spent on it. I am really glad I was able to visit this place. As a recommendation for any future visitor, please make sure you bring with you a bottle of water (you can refill it there), a great hat and really comfy sneakers (I personally spent 4 hours walking through the village bit it could have been more, there's a lot to see). The only thing I've missed were few of the sculptures that I thought would be there, but probably were only temporarily years ago.

Wow! Some exceptional ruins that give great insight into ancient life. Would recommend allocating at least 2-3 hours here as there is a lot to see. There were a couple entrances. We used the one by the amphitheater and were able to get tickets there. €16 per person for a group of 2. Definitely would recommend!

This is an amazing site. Only had a half day to tour, probably needed at least 3 days! I have known the story and history since I was a kid, but to see it up close is something else! Had an amazing guide (Fabio). Very sad to see the destruction and death brought on by Vesuvius. In the restaurant, we had some awesome Margherita Pizza! Very historic site. Fascinating ruins of Pompeii! Best to be on the alert for pick pockets!

Truly an astonishing place! It does feel like a travel back in time! It's beautiful. I took a one-day trip from Rome and it was well worth it. It cost around 100 euros per person. On the way back to Rome, they included a sightseeing tour in Naples, which was also very nice.

Took part of a guided tour of Vesuvius and Pompeii. Definitely recommend the guided tour over going on your own. Such a historic place. A week after visiting and I am still trying to get accustomed to the feeling that I was a part of a place that is over two thousand years old. If you get the chance, take your time and walk around the park and just feel like you lived there, or walked out your door and enjoy the views all around. You can't help but notice Vesuvius in the background.
