Forum, Pompeii

Ruin · Hidden Gem · Historic Site
Imagine what life was like 2,000 years ago at Forum, the ancient social center of the ruined city of Pompeii and a World Heritage Site. One of the main attractions in the city, which was buried in the 1st century CE, the central area has remained eerily frozen in time. What was once used as a marketplace for the Romans is now a major tourist spot. Walk among the crowds of tourists and experience the ghost-like presence of Ancient Rome in what has become an open-air museum two millennia past the natural disaster that claimed this city. • Start by researching before you go as there are a lot of cons going on as you walk up. Whether you do a self tour or a guided tour, be prepared to walk - a lot! Very cool to imagine how the Romans...  more »

  • Pompeii is a site to see, the ruins are stunning! But be warned, it gets hot and there is absolutely no shade so pace yourself.  more »

  • Amazing restoration of the ancient city! The street was incredible! The tour guide was very knowledgeable and helpful with questions. The tiny bit of exploring time was good, would have liked a little more. Restrooms (toilet) facilities at the beginning and end, no water during tour. Come prepared!
  • Much bigger and more to see than I expected. Very impressive. Our tour guide was very informative. The original inhabitants were very smart and resourceful. Great experience. We took 2 hour private tour.
  • Such an amazing site to see!! Be sure to take a guided tour or you'll miss the nuances of this extraordinary place and more so the history and facts behind the tragedy that created the Pompeii we've come to know. Wear comfortable shoes...not sandals or flips or you'll be sorry! The walkways are not easy and you do need to watch where you walk or you'll be sorry. Seriously. The views from Pompeii are unbelievably beautiful... Plus, there's some good dining restaurants/experiences available just as you're leaving the park. Pizza and prosciutto with melon to die for... Seriously. A perfect day here!
  • It is amazing to think of how this city once was. The buildings are everything from totally ruined, to rather well kept. It is definitely worth the trip. I recommend planing at least 4-8 hours for this place.
  • We loved Pompeii, especially after most people left late afternoon. We traveled by train and just bought the tickets at the entrance. No queue at the counter, just 1 person in front of us. Weather was hot as hell but there's drinking water at many places to fill up your bottle. Must see
