Take a trip to the past by visiting Casa del Fauno, a private residence that still stands open to the public. Dating back to the 2nd century BCE, the building has housed artwork throughout history, some of which remains. Visit the aristocratic house of the Roman Empire to see tesserae mosaics depicting the battle of Issus between the Persian Empire and Alexander the Great along with theater masks and archeological findings. Take a peek at the erotic imagery of Satyr and Nymph, a typical mosaic for Pompeii culture, and absorb the Roman culture that ruled the city for centuries. • Casa del Fauno (the House of the Faun), built during the 2nd century BC, was one of the largest and most impressive private residences in Pompeii. It was named for the bronze statue of the dancing faun. Most beautiful little statue, a must see in Pompeii. Highly recommended. The House of the Faun also contained the Alexander Mosaic, now in Naples museum, depicting the Battle of Issus in 333 BC between Alexander the Great and Darius III of Persia._
