  • The Franciscan sanctuary of Saint Anthony was erected from the year 1541 and represents one of the most significant monuments of Campania under the Franciscan art. The structure was the subject of considerable restructuring following the earthquakes of years 1694 and 1857. The facade of the Church has two orders of which the lower one is marked by a large Atrium bordered by three stone arches. The Interior that still maintains the architecture dating back to the origins and has a nave wide and bright in the style of Franciscan churches and received its present appearance during the 18th with the reconstruction of the space. The great dome above the apse space gives momentum and solemnity to the whole. Wonderful sculpture of the crucifix by fra Umile of Petralia, 1636, made from olive wood in accordance with the Franciscan tradition. The year 1783 dates from the Baroque balustrade and built of local stone that separates from the priestly space in which you can admire the elegant altar, dating from the year 1706, performed in polychrome scagliola, by artist Salerno Gennaro Mannelli. Almost certainly be attributed to the painter Pietro Antonio Ferro Lucan frescoes illustrating scenes from the life of Christ in Renaissance style performed in the early part of the 17th century. It was performed in about the year 1680 by the Neapolitan artist Domenico Sorrentino, Baroque style, the frescoes of the dome with the glory of paradise. The ancient wooden statue of St. Anthony work performed during the 18th century, on days 12 and June 13, 2010 undergoes a transformation of expression of the face and at the same time there is a phenomenon of watery eyes.
