  • Probably my judgment on the "Fonte delle Fate" is affected by the recent visit I made to some similar medieval fountains of Siena, in particular Fontebranda and "Fonte di Pescaia". The water in those ...  more »
  • Great place but devoid of care and maintenance. Tub full of waste. A real shame for a monument so beautiful and surrounded by spectacular nature.

  • Really located in a picturesque spot, this source that enslaved the ancient walled city located just above, is definitely among the places to see absolutely. Beautiful are also the meadows which extend front and that, as communal gardens are well cared for, but what I don't understand is why the source is not receiving the same care. In fact there are written that disfigure and also the stone is not maintained and kept in good order by a restoration. In addition, within the source, there is a work that engages very little with the whole medieval structure, but the taste is not discussed.

  • The Fonte delle Fate in Poggibonsi is situated near the fortress of Poggio Imperiale was built in a Flat Valley, the ancient name of corresponding impluvium bridged from Earth to retrieve over the construction of the stands of the Medicean fortress in 1484. Was reported to light as a result of a major excavation work to create a vineyard just in 1803: it is entirely built in travertine, its façade is characterized by a portico of six double pointed arches. The arches are supported by thick pillars inside of which were carved out of the arcades always pointed arch probably to facilitate the movement of water and at the same time decrease the thickness of the parapets of the tub in a pillar. Seems to have been built by masters from the Po Valley, specifically from Balugano from cream: the presence of these artists was normal at that time because he was in fact a Lombard-Emilian masters building construction of the Valley overlooking the Elsa Valley between the 12th and 13th centuries. A system of ducts collects the waters of the Hill in the tanks that are inside. Today the fountain is set into an archaeological Park-environmental, it is inserted in the villages and castles in the area.
