  • According to some scholars, particularly supported by the statements of Vasari, the Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Pistoia presents itself today as a result of the restructuring, made by Giovanni Pisano of an ancient Lombard Tower in turn encasing a previous Roman artefact and defensive purposes. To further support this theory contributes to the fact that the tower is strangely separated from San Zeno Cathedral and is divided into three overlapping groups, each having its own particular style and register, in order from bottom to top: Lombard, Pisan, pisano-lucchese. From the bottom we find three floors without openings, including the upper level houses the clock, two opened with mullioned Windows, three moved by loggias and the last containing the belfry. The top two floors, such as completion of crowning a Ghibelline battlements external dovetail. Construction materials are used alternately, green serpentine marble and local limestone. The Bell Tower of the Cathedral of Pistoia is one of a series of towers, with terraces on the top and defined at Loggia, found in various places in Tuscany.

  • Also moving away from piazza Duomo, just turn around and hardly show not to our view. Beautiful, imposing, dominating. You can get on it.

  • Stands out with its grandeur in the sky of the square. Nice, really. Maybe almost better the Duomo and the Baptistery.
