  • I saw her several times in the past is truly gorgeous and also inserted in a beautiful context: a large churchyard, surrounded by trees and close to the shore of the river. Apart from the Cathedral in piazza dei Miracoli, in Pisa the other churches are somewhat sacrificed, wedged between the houses and with little space in front. This is a wonderful exception.

  • Of ancient Foundation, dating back to the early 9th century, is Sao Paulo, architectural complex of magnificent beauty: to be considered, in the hierarchy of the national artistic heritage, second only to the Cathedral of Piazza dei Miracoli. Moreover the ties and the contact points between the two buildings there are many: that "a ripa d'arno" (so called because it is located near the left bank of the River, just a few meters from the bridge of the Citadel) is often referred to as the "old cathedral" by virtue of the fact that the Archbishop celebrated here the functions when the new church was still under construction. Also the Church – which initially was linked to a Benedictine monastery underwent a radical restructuring--starting from 1050, according a line very close to that of the current Cathedral. The marble façade dates from the middle of eleven hundred and is characterized by alternating light and dark-toned, horizontal bands. The collection, with its gabled profile, is divided into two parts, separated by a stringcourse finely carved: the less marked by the presence of three portals (with lintel, Arch and bezel) and five blind arches on fake pillars (of which the two most pointed to the right), whose collars, minutely worked, inscribed lozenges and rosettes of various foggia. The top takes place on three orders of loggias with round arches resting on slender columns. The Interior is austere and shady, has three naves, with two rows of massive columns crowned with Roman capitals; the plan is a Latin cross; the exterior manifests a dome at the intersection of two perpendicular axes and three apses.

  • Completely cordoned off by scaffolding and sheeting for restoration. I could not then visit it, but from the pictures I saw I infer that he is a piece of history in the city. Central Church for the community of Pisa. Beautiful traditional architecture and decoration details Pisani that cropped up between the sheets. Definitely at the end of restoration.
