Piazza dei Cavalieri, Pisa

4.3
Appreciate the architecture of the palaces, churches, and statues in vast, open Piazza dei Cavalieri. Behind the statue and fountain of Cosimo I stands the Palazzo della Carovana dei Cavalieri, which now houses the Scuola Normale Superiore, the elite university founded by Napoleon Bonaparte. • If miracles square represents the religious part of the city, you may well say that Knight's square represents the cultural pole and study, after having represented the civil power for many centuries. Definitely one of the most beautiful squares of the city with the imposing Palazzo della Carovana, home of the prestigious École normale supérieure, the austere Palace headquarters of the order of the Knights of Santo Stefano, the beautiful clock tower and the Church of Santo Stefano. The square is singularly beautiful, with its irregular perimeter, interesting buildings that encircle; too bad none of these buildings is open to visitors; It would be the Church of Santo Stefano, incredibly closed to the public. Among the curiosities, in the square is the so-called Torre della Fame, where she died count Ugolino who according to legend she ate children and grandchildren, celebrated by Dante in one of the songs of hell.

  • Vasari staged his architectural concept art here and figurative, a square that shows you how to copy and as a model.

  • See for its architecture but we were surprised not to find a single coffee or bar to relax so uninteresting

  • Beautiful Piazza with absolutely fab architecture. Must see. Close to the major attractions. No entry fee.
  • Surely it is the 2nd main Pisa square. The name came out because in the 2nd part of the 16th century, the square became the headquarter of the Order of Knights of St. Stephen. Now you can see the main house of the "Scuola Normale" University.
  • Good place to sit and enjoy the street sound tracks in evening
  • Beautiful buildings. Quiet and not too touristic.
  • Good place to hang out at night with friends.
