The Park is a huge green lung, a vast area to explore on foot, by bicycle, on horseback or visit just to pass an afternoon outdoors or enjoy a picnic. It is now made up of four areas: la pineta San Rossore (about 3,000 acres), which occupies the territory cleared by doctors, and now covered with pines, poplars and alders and used as a hunting reserve, then passed to the Lorraine, Savoy, then to the Presidency of the Republic; the stain of Migliarino (2,400 hectares), a pine forest that extends beyond the Serchio; Lake Massaciuccoli that with a perimeter greater than 10 km is what remains of a vast marshy area after the reclamation carried out between the 18TH and 20th centuries; the estate of bobbin lace (more than 5,000 acres) occupying the coastal area and the southern area of the Park. The san Rossore Park preserves one of the few remaining examples of Mediterranean coastal forest. Passing the entrance, one round to go counterclockwise leads the facility (cascine old) from which excursions organized. Within the park lies the Racecourse San Rossore Pisa, in which dispute Gallop races. You can visit for free a large area of the Park, Saturday, Sundays, public holidays and weekdays provided that conditions are of racing at the track. On other days you can only access the Park by reservation. At the visitor centre is a service available for hire of bicycles and cycle-baby beds and inside the Park you can go horse riding. Visits and excursions (on foot, horseback, bicycle and carriage): for the nine itineraries the visits take place on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays for groups of at least 20 people. Only from October to March and March with regard to the area of the blades for groups of at least 15 people. We have been there several times on a number of occasions and is always worthwhile.
