Duomo Pisa, Pisa

(4.5/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
Standing tall in Pisa's most famous square, Duomo Pisa is a medieval cathedral dating to 1064. The church has a distinctive Pisan-Romanesque style with noticeable Byzantine influences. Admire the black-and-white marble interior, and look up at the gilded ceiling and the frescoed dome. The frescoes had to be redone after a fire in 1595 that ruined much of the cathedral's Renaissance artworks. The 14th-century mosaic in the apse survived the fire. Look for the sarcophagus of St. Ranieri, Pisa's patron saint. Make Duomo Pisa part of your personalized Pisa itinerary using our Pisa holiday planner.

  • For commitments to school super early risers are coming to Pisa early in a cold morning but with a gorgeous Sun and when I found myself in front of the leaning tower so cleaned up and illuminated by the Sun, and given the time with very few people the emotion he hung up his throat. It's an experience I hope to do in all the early rising will be rewarded by this wonderful vision, and then being in a few dozen people across the square it is incredible ... ... ... ...

  • beautiful and old church. Part of the miracle square. I love to say that I think going into the church was more amazing than going near the leaning tower. It was worth the wait in line to see the art work. This is a place to go to if you visit Pisa.
