Duomo Pisa, Pisa
(4.6/5 based on 3,200+ reviews on the web)
Standing tall in Pisa's most famous square, Duomo Pisa is a medieval cathedral dating to 1064. The church has a distinctive Pisan-Romanesque style with noticeable Byzantine influences. Admire the black-and-white marble interior, and look up at the gilded ceiling and the frescoed dome. The frescoes had to be redone after a fire in 1595 that ruined much of the cathedral's Renaissance artworks. The 14th-century mosaic in the apse survived the fire. Look for the sarcophagus of St. Ranieri, Pisa's patron saint. Make Duomo Pisa part of your personalized Pisa itinerary using our Pisa holiday planner.

  • Perfectly framed in the landscape of this amazing city. the Cathedral, as indeed the whole city, all visited and enjoyed without haste and away from the crowds. Dwell in the details is the right recipe to enjoy the most.

  • The facade of this beautiful Cathedral is magnificently crafted with marble, but on the day we visited was going on a private ceremony-a sumptuous wedding prevented us from getting to know the interior of the Cathedral.

  • Beautiful buildings located in pisa, definitely worth the visit. Amazing designs, very close to the leaning tower of Pisa.

  • beautiful and old church. Part of the miracle square. I love to say that I think going into the church was more amazing than going near the leaning tower. It was worth the wait in line to see the art work. This is a place to go to if you visit Pisa.
