  • We visited the Archaeological Museum of Piombino on a beautiful Sunday in October. The Museum is located in the Centre of the town, in piazza della Cittadella, a few steps from Piazza Bovio (large terrace overlooking the sea with views over the island of Elba and the Islands) and is arranged on two floors within a building beautifully restored. Is an elevator, stair lift, bathrooms clean and functional, interactive stations and collects numerous archaeological finds from the territory of one of the Etruscan Populonia, lucumonies the only built on the sea, in the Gulf of Baratti. The archaeological finds from prehistoric to Roman times and are arranged into functional dashboards with precise and simple captions; There are numerous reconstructions of typical activity of Populonia (the iron extracted from the nearby island of Elba) that make the first industrial area of ancient Populonia. There are also graphic reconstructions of urban development of the town of Populonia with references to the area of the Acropolis and the subsequent Castle. The interactive stations are two: one is that of the fish Mosaic (the Acropolis) and the other is the tomb of wagons (in the necropolis of s. Cerbone). They're both well done if it wasn't for the fact that it is necessary to follow the videos while standing and that video of the tomb of the wagons did not work properly. Better organization of space would make it more enjoyable parks in those locations. Finally, note the kindness of receptionists and ticket office and a book shop fully stocked. After the tour, which to be honest would be more engaging with the help of suitable audio guides, I wanted to fill out the questionnaire in the same but I didn't because the location was too close to the ticket office and then could create obstacles to institutional activities: a more secluded location and equipped with, perhaps, a session would tempted to lose several minutes to deliver its judgment on the structure.

  • Correct exposure and understandable to all. Never boring the view is well organized and you alternate between images, designs and locations well made, besides the wonderful collection of artifacts, including sporting arms silver vase: wonderful. In short, a museum not to be missed if you are around, even just by the sea, to plummet.
