  • The square is bustling, cheerful, beautiful set to take memorable photos and to meet the contemporary sculptors from around the world in the Apuan-Versilia territory

  • This area of Versilia, below the Apuane, for centuries it has been frequented by sculptors (you'd think to Michelangelo) who come to choose the marble or cater to local craftsmen to create the artwork, glue transformation from bozzetto (usually in chalk) to sculpture in marble or bronze. And this phenomenon, as well as to the men who made it possible, was devoted to this museum which then allows us to understand the genesis of an artwork, the transition from idea to concrete realization. In the cloister of the old convent (and neighbors) are collected more than 600 sketches (i.e. on a smaller scale), models (full size) or drawings made by artists and used to give rise to the sculpture. As in piazza del Duomo and other areas in Versilia also inside this museum were placed sculptures of a "young" artist of Albanian origin, now Italian, Helidon Xhixha. Such operations are always at risk because it is not known if a priori will prevail the work or the context that is if the visitor's attention will be drawn only from sculpture or conversely it disappears among the surrounding elements: in the specific case I must unfortunately say that very few visitors dwell on sketches. After being passed to the Interior of the Church where, in a gloomy and filled with artworks, the comparison I thought held tight and polished steel blocks (Pillars of light) appear (able to) discuss with the canvases to the strict cloister: here in few rooms are smaller than those external works. Xan is a particular artist (who became famous for steel iceberg last Venice biennale), his works can give rise to a question: art or design?, and for this show for the first time in addition to the beloved steel-mirrored or tinted-used marble and bronze as a sort of tribute to tradition and local quarries. Just continuing you can admire the sketches: among the authors some of the most important artists of the twentieth century as Botero, Cascella, Cesar, Consagra, Niki de Saint Phalle, Folon, Hartung, Messina, Mitoraj, Penck, Giò Pomodoro, Vangi and even Alexander the great colossal like Ipousteguy seven meters. In conclusion it can be argued that the confrontation, contrary to what happens in the squares and in the Church, here is indirect, more resigned, almost in a subdued voice: so as not to overwhelm the fragile elegance clear these sketches were relegated upstairs and outdoors ...

  • Passed in the piazza di Pietrasanta near the duomo I noticed the doors open I think of a Deconsecrated Church, I walked in and there has opened up a world. Beautiful Museum to be recommended to all those who love art and culture. The only flaw is not massively advertised. A must see for the architecture of the environment!
