  • Always a show through here. In late February there was an air of snow and I was able to admire in peace this ancient tree, with its nearly 400 years on the shoulders. Really wonderful if this review did you like, you can read my other val d'Orcia (and others) and I'm glad a click on: is it useful? Thanks:)

  • Curious attraction worth a visit here for half an hour while traveling on the Val d'Orcia. The old mighty oak. Year of planting-approximately 1760, height-19 m, trunk perimeter-4.9 m, diameter Crown-34 m. oak Name comes from the name of the locality where it is located: localita ' Checche checca, on the Tuscan dialect means "forty". The second title, more intriguing, Quercia delle Streghe (witches ' Oak). There is a belief that it was under this oak witches before flying on the Sabbath during the second world war oak served to warehouse of munitions to guerrillas. We visited this place on December 31. Poobnimali oak and admired the combination of its red leaves and Evergreen cypresses.

  • See as just stop on the tourist road of the Val d'Orcia. Even if it has been damaged by the storm, this tree is still very impressive and majestic.

  • In the Plateau of Queens, to the provincial road number 53 of the province of Siena, rises the monumental oak tree of Queens, a downy oak (quercus pubescens) centuries-old (he is said to have four hundred years), surveyed between Monumental plants in Italy. The name derives from the nickname (Queers) under which they are called the Magpies in the Tuscan dialect. Outstanding are its size: a trunk circumference of four meters and fifty centimeters, height 22 meters, diameter of 19 meters; his colossal head of hair is visible from a great distance. In June 2017 the oak of Queers was declared a Monument of Italy ": is the first, and so far only, tree of the Italian peninsula to bear this title and this protection.

  • A unique and striking at the heart of the Val d'Orcia Unesco already for many years. Just a few kilometres from Montepulciano Pienza-San Quirico d'Orcia-pearls should not miss.

  • The OAK TREE of QUEERS Among the oak and man there is a close connection that runs through the entire journey of civilization to arrive until a few decades ago; and for many years this ratio was really full and indissoluble. Its wood provided for centuries the primary material for all sorts of great construction or small tool: from ships to barrels, from acorns as food, to bark for tanning, until the ink that Leonardo used for his designs. Contrary to popular belief it is not the longest or the most majestic tree in nature: the Redwoods the fight in California, pine height in old age. But the oak or oak and downy oak, Turkey Oaks, British Oaks, Cork adapts to different climates and habitats; and as the human race, it is combined and Scrum giving rise up to four hundred and fifty different species, thus becoming the most popular tree at all latitudes. Now, even this oak (Oak petraea) that has taken root in the locality of Queers-Magpies in Tuscan dialect-in the town of Pienza (SI) roughly 300 years ago; from a height of 19 meters, supported by a trunk of about 4.90 meters, and a Crown of over 34 meters in diameter, could boast (with the help of volunteers bipedal) the title of the monumental tree. Out of this matriarch, invite travelers to stop in this place, which I hope will be a hope of ever greater respect for nature.
