  • I recommend having a walk in this beautiful village. Picturesque alleys and the breathtaking view. I happened upon this country for the Chestnut Festival train Festival, that is, an event full of merriment, flavours and colours. I got to eat the fried mushrooms, fried pizza and chestnuts accompanied by a Tuscan red wine. Outside the castle there were many stands and stalls where you can taste local food and drink. Also, there were lots of band in every county into the night where you can listen to good music. Unforgettable experience in an enchanted village.

  • I visited piancastagnaio with my partner and our two kids aged 5 months, Saturday 29 October, after fixing the RV the day before at one of the places used for the camper. We were at approx 10 minutes walk from the old town, but the walk was nice having found before the weekly market, albeit a very small one, and a market not only in crafts d road just outside the walls. Walked in town, we were immediately fascinated by the context and by a party in the air due to the Chestnut Festival held in those days. In fact the village was festooned with the flags of the 4 districts of the country, and in every county, Contrada members were involved in cooking the chestnuts, in giant braziers, and to welcome guests in their rooms to offer food service. Us after some wandering we went to eat in the country's smallest, namely Voltaia. And he ate and drank divinely, we got to know a veteran font, I think his name is Gerard but I would not go wrong, who told us about the history of the locality and the palio of piancastagnaio, which seems to be second only to Siena. In addition to making us by Cicero he also brought to his home to show us the "cencio" or drape that you desire, which they won at the last palio and she kept lying on the kitchen table! Overall good experience that has made us realize how much felt L belonging to the contrada and that many young people are involved with pleasure and pride in carry on this tradition. Overall very positive experience in every sense so cannot not recommend a visit to this beautiful place.
