Donated to the city by the famous sculptor Arnaldo Pomodoro, is an allegory of a world partially devoured by the ravages that eat away at the tissue. The sculpture dates from 1967 and invites reflection, especially in these times of momentous change and in my humble opinion is beautiful because it expresses two conflicting feelings, the corrosion of evil and hope in a world that if all we will do our part you will still save. More than a sculpture an end in itself is an ode to the ransom and the beauty that never as in this case is subjective and it is precisely the positive message that I believe I took bronze in the collection that makes the sculpture look beautiful in my eyes.show original
Bella la fontana con la sfera di Pomodoro. Sullo sfondo il mare. Suggestivo anche in una giornata grigia di inizio autunno.Beautiful Fountain with sphere of Pomodoro. In the background the sea. Striking even on a cloudy day in early autumn.show original
Carina l'idea. é un punto nevralgico della città ed anche punto di ritrovo. Non stona per niente con l'ambiente circostante e dà un'idea di profondità e libertà. Apprezzata!Nice idea. It is a focal point of the city and meeting point. Blends for nothing with their surroundings and gives an idea of the depth and freedom. Appreciated!show original
This monument is a curious ball-shaped modern sculpture (actually a bronze cast) by artist Gio Pomodoro. Its official name is "Sfera Grande" (Large Sphere), but everybody in town calls it "la palla" (the ball), and is a common meeting point for youngsters throughout the year. "The ball" has unexpectedly become the most recognizable symbol of the city and sits amidst a nice rotonda on the sea, an excellent place to catch photos, some fresh evening air and an aperitivo during hot summer nights. Much photographed by tourists, it stars as "Tomato's Ball" (Pomodoro, the artist's surname, is the name of the vegetable) on some very hard to find old postcards.
