Lake Trasimeno, Perugia

(4/5 based on 1,000+ reviews on the web)
Discover small, traditional fishing villages, hidden olive groves, and a smattering of castles at Lake Trasimeno, the largest body of water in peninsular Italy. Admire the area's churches, and learn about their connection with the region's Etruscan and medieval past. Take a dip in the lake's shallow waters at one of its many beaches, hop a boat to one of its small islands, or try a round of golf at a nearby course. Many of the waterside restaurants specialize in freshwater fish in addition to traditional Italian fare. To visit Lake Trasimeno on your trip to Perugia, use our Perugia vacation trip planner.

  • It is impossible to put into words a sunset or a sunrise at Lake Trasimeno: the colours and their shades are so various and intense that it feels like being in a dream. To fully appreciate this unique feature of the Lake the best seasons are spring and autumn; the ideal place to enjoy the sunset is the area between Oasi la Valle and Passignano (East), and to see the colors of dawn, the area West (Castiglione del Lago).

  • I love the Lake Trasimeno and living just a few kilometres from it, I go there often. I think it's one of the most beautiful Umbria. You can find everything: hotels, bed and breakfast, restaurants, pubs, kiosks along the Lake. Everything always very clean and cared for. In spring and summer there is always a large number of people but the lacustrine countries never become unsustainably chaotic, there's a pleasant gradually. The Lake is spectacular even in winter, when it is agitated and threatened by clouds swollen with rain. There is a sense of surreal poetry and grace of nature that only in such place you can find. Beautiful, I love it and you can not help but to love you too
