  • Really special, I would say unique, this church-octagonal tower built by g. Pisano in the late 1200 on the spot where he was beheaded the Bishop of Perugia Herculaneum, strenuous defender of the city from the siege by the Goths of Totila. The current Baroque appearance occurred in 1600, but already half of 1500 due to political and social events in the upper Church was pulled down to modify the road system. The main altar there is a 3rd century Roman sarcophagus containing the remains of Sant ' Ercolano; the altarpiece of the Virgin and three Saints with the Decemviri is a 17th-century copy of the canvas by Perugino, now in the Vatican museums; beautiful interior decoration of the dome.

  • I've been in Perugia ten days ago and I stopped in front of this very unique Church on Sunday morning and I had no problems finding it open (I read in many reviews that the Church is often closed). The Holy Mass on Sunday takes place at 10.30; then, arriving a little before that time, the Church is open and you can proceed to visit without disturbing the conduct of religious function. Along the via Cavour towards the old town we found on the left before the ascent. Outside the church there is a beautiful staircase double. The element that distinguishes this church is his strange octagonal. It seems that right in the exact spot where the Church, Sant'Ercolano suffered martyrdom. It is worth visiting the Interior, because on the walls at the top there are beautiful paintings of the XVII century. The Church is surrounded by tall arcades, outside of a shape reminiscent of the nose cone and higher up there are of small hanging arches.

  • This octagonal church, at the top of a staircase, is quite amazing. Very talkative baroque ornamentation.
