  • Advice to tourists, but also for pavesi not paying more attention to the beautiful monuments. The lights on the high and low reliefs of the façade have a show soprattuttoal sunset or night lighting

  • If you can't miss in your visit to this Basilica of Lombard origins. The exterior looks in sandstone ochre, unfortunately eroded by time, but the red-brick basilica from others of the same period and makes it unique. How unique is the Lombard Romanesque style interior with beautiful frescoes and mosaics and a unique plant. Here was crowned Frederick Barbarossa in 1155. A really impressive and unique ...

  • Wonderful lombardic-roman basilica, San Michele Maggiore stands here since 1100 and is today recognized as one of the most impressive churces of the Longobardic period.
  • Most beautiful church in the whole province.
  • The basilica of San Michele is considered the prototype of medieval Romanesque church, between the medieval churches which boasts Pavia, such as the Church of San Pietro in ciel d'Oro and San Teodoro. San Michele however differs from other churches to use becomes widespread, both for structure for decorations, the fragile ochre sandstone instead of cooked, and also for the particular architectural structure, which provides a a Latin cross, with a transept exceptionally developed, very protruding with respect to longitudinal body building, unlike, for example, in San Pietro in Ciel d'Oro, where the transept does not protrude from the rectangular building Church. The transept, with its own frontage on the north side of its own mock apse on the opposite side and once a bottesostanzialmente different from other parts of the Church, aimed at crocieradelle constitutes almost an autonomous body, a second Church permeated to the main one: a new solution for those times. Already the size of the basilica (length: 55 m; width at the transept: 38 meters) highlight the importance of this part of the structure. At the crossing of nave and transept rises the daring octagonal cupola (very asymmetrical), on Lombard type plumes.
