  • Junction point between Romanesque architecture and Gothic architecture. The exterior, built in pink Verona marble is octagonal. The Octagon is a symbol of eternity. Unprecedented growth in height, as if it were a truncated Tower. The outer surface is decorated with a complex schema, with full and empty spaces that give rhythm to chiaroscuro effects. On the lower level of the marble cladding is the Zooforo, a series of seventy-five panels carved in bas-relief. The Interior consists of 16 arches that make up of the niches, each of which contains a painted scene. All these frescoes and paintings date from the 13th and 14th centuries. The 16 sides of inner shape, that duplicate the external Octagon (symbol of eternity), evoke the circle of twelve apostles together with the 4 cardinal directions, of the evangelists and the seasons. Not all the sculptural trousseau which decorated the battistero is preserved.

  • Nice baptistery filled with historical paintings. Make sure you spend some time to look around because your ticket is only good for one entrance.
  • It isn't as impressive as other duomos we have seen but still worth to take a look if you are in the city.
  • The pink baptistery is quite unique! The entrance fee is a bit steep though
  • A Masterpiece! It has to be visited
