  • While searching I came across some pictures and I was immediately electrocuted. The surprise became enthusiasm in knowing that he was in Calabria, Papasidero. Papasidero is an ancient village in the upper Valley of the river Lao historical, artistic and natural heritage which has a notch, just think of the grotta del Romito, site of world significance and precisely in Santa Maria di Costantinopoli. From the ninth century and for a long time, the whole Calabria was a place of refuge and meditation for monks that just between the flounces calabresi had found the ideal places to practice asceticism and contemplation of nature. From this period the Foundation of Santa Maria di Costantinopoli. After going through the whole country, the Church is reached by a paved path that leads down to the river Lao. I recommend you get there together with the city guide you will find in the local tourist office, a nice lady who will make you discover yet another Byzantine wonder, the chapel of Santa Sofia. The Church was built on the edge of a cliff, in a bend on the other side of the river can be reached along a wonderful medieval bridge. Here the architecture of the Church with its shapes and colours blends and merges into one with the splendid natural context giving rise to the construction of an ideal landscape wonder of man's hand and the divine.

  • We visited the sanctuary for free thanks to a local guide. Involving the story of this church that was built on the banks of the river Lao. Our tour guide, was very thorough and answered all our questions with a language very simple and understandable to people who don't really mean art. Has been able to pay tribute to the shrine. The landscape is really invantevole.

  • Thanks to the staff of the Tourist Office of the country can be taken to see the frescoed chapel hidden in the historic center and then this sanctuary in a spectacular position, reminiscent of the meteors. Between the mountains and the double deck, with views from the top of the river Lao. Beautiful common initiative to open these sites to visitors: thanks! From the square in front of the shrine is accessed by a path (best shoes slippers ...) to a small beach on the river that is wonderful and refreshing bathing!
