The estate name, Monte Bernardi, dates back to 1085. The majority of the vineyards are over 40 years of age, with the first wine produced in 1992. Prior to 1992, the grapes were sold to neighboring farms. The Schmelzer family purchased Monte Bernardi in 2003.

The Monte Bernardi estate extends over 53 hectares (130 acres), of which 9.5 hectares (23.5 acres), plus 5 hectares (12 acres) leased vineyards(direct neighbor). A third of the vineyards over 40 years old. Vineyards are planted to Sangiovese (90%), and for the Tzingana IGT: Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Petit Verdot. Farming is certified organic with extensive incorporation of biodynamic practices. The total production is approximately 50,000 bottles.

The vineyards are situated in the hilly, southern most region of Panzano, an area that has been acknowledged as one of the "Grands Crus" of Chianti Classico, and is considered capable of making wines that can compete with the best in the world. The vines are planted on a soil of a high rock content mixture, which, dependent on the vineyard, consists of shale (Galestro), marl and limestone (Alberese). The vineyards are perfectly situated - standing at an altitude of 350-400 meters above sea level, surrounded by forests and enjoying a southern exposure, with the river Pesa flowing just a few hundred meters to the south. These factors contribute to the unique micro-climate of Monte Bernardi.

Thanks to Lisa for hospitality between the visit and tasting we stayed close to 2 hours! A nice tour in the vineyards farmed completely differently from us, interesting to see. Similarly to the cellar where it is very traditional. The wines are very elegant, light, with each a true identity, a character. At the level of prices, it's still very okay! (between 10 and €20) Frankly do not hesitate to check, an appointment is recommended for a nice visit.

Michael, the owner of the winery, a man with extensive experience in winemaking. After working in several countries, including Australia, embodied their knowledge in creating wonderful wines. Very suave Narrator. His assistant Dzhesi-cute girl who does not disregard any of your questions. Wine will not leave indifferent even the most refined connoisseur of Chianti, affects the professionalism of the winemaker. Worth traveling to see everything with your own eyes and taste the excellent wines personally

Lovely place but I don't like the wine and oil I tasted. You can buy far better Chianti Classicos and for better price. Olive oil was too spicy at the end for me but it depends on your preferences.

Lisa was super nice although we got at 18:00 near closing time. She did not charge us for tasting 4 diffrent wines, which we ended buying one.
