Welcome to a wonderful place full of nature, sources and fantastic animals. the path to reach it not good at all because you have to cross the Creek between stones and water. but the show is wonderful if you want to make a cold bath in the river enjoying very special flora and fauna. another place that the wonderful Sicily can give to those who respect him

The place is amazing and well worth a visit, but we need some clarifications, if the intent is to be helpful to other travellers. We were based in Syracuse and to provide information we went to forest Office near the catacombs of San Giovanni. Were very kind and gave us valuable guidance. First of all point out that it is not far from Syracuse, but the road is sealed off and winding, so it takes a while to arrive. Then you get somewhere completely isolated. You must be good walkers, but really good, the place is impervious, say moderately difficult, but not impossible and it says a that's not really a Gazelle for agility ... yet he did make two paths. Indispensable: comfortable shoes, forget sandals or slippers, so sneakers or hiking boots, hat, because the area is almost entirely under the hot sun, (we then had the madness, to the first path, get off at 10 and go up to 13, with more than 42 degrees!! And 14 went down the second path, same temperature!), water, water, water to drink and maybe something sweet, because the low blood sugar is guaranteed and then recommend not charging too much, because the path, as I said, it's not exactly easy ... Mobile phones there do not take! If you have kids, forget about this thing. By 10 or 11 years old you can get a thought, but below this age is unthinkable, because among other things would be crazy, indeed, impossible, take your children in their arms. The necropolis and the nearby streams (the place in fact combines the look in that naturalistic) are accessible from various free inputs that lead to different areas accessibility. We went to Salazar. the first access is not appropriate, because the area was devastated by fire. The second access is what leads to the Anaktoron. You need to take the car as much as possible, on a dirt road, because then walk things to walk a lot. You stop where there are barriers. Driveway gravel, vegetation mostly consists of brushwood, at least in this heat, steps and terraces of varying height, UPS and downs, mostly under the scorching sun. Signs give directions about km to go, but we were not true, because you walk, walk and never come. ... On the way there are the remains of the Anaktoron and several caves, settlement of the Neolithic period. For archaeology lovers, why get down get down, you hear the sound of water, but don't get it ever ... Second alternative: back on the main road and continue to the right you will come to another login. The path here is always under the scorching sun, slightly but just, smoother than the last. We flank caves various and arrive early enough to the river Calcinara, where the show is excellent, because the stream flows in a canyon where, at the top of the walls, there's lots of greenery and open various Neolithic caves always ... the air temperature at the end is pleasant. Down there is in fact a kind of clear and fresh water, where spring is forbidden to make the everyone did the same! On both locations there are bins for rubbish, but everything is pristine, so put the waste bag and throw them at the entrance, it would be a mess to do otherwise! Upon our arrival at the first entry there was none at the time of the ascent we found a Ranger Word fantastic, that he even offered the iced tea and fresh water (blessed!) and told us to go to the second path. Here we found another Forester, so probably arrive in the area at a certain time. If you don't feel like labor (I think overall we will have gone a 7 or 8 km) and you breath, don't MISS IT!

Walk created by Pantalica. Itself a route chosen from a very quiet point where we have parked our car. So as good as no other hikers encountered. Very varied trip through the mountains, past the graves but also through a beautiful valley with flowing river. Blessed to cool down. Our sturdy hiking boots were definitely a must. And bring enough water because there are no stalls en route;-)

  • Beautiful canyon, but it is not so easy to find - the way it is poorly signposted. Outside the main tourist season you can be completely yourself :-) In the canyon there is no drinking water and no refreshments. Swimming is prohibited - but no one checked. The canyon closes in the evening, but if you continue, easy to get out. Necropolis is about 2 km from the entrance to the canyon, the path to it is marked. It's a really interesting place and well worth it.
  • Not only is this an amazing collection of rock cut tombs, but also a beautiful gorge ideal for hiking and swimming in the crystal clear wster. And if you like caves, there is an enormous one of them too.
  • Reviewer "Giuseppe Poeta" is an imbecile; complaining about the geography of the site having "dangerous paths" and "fire hazards". It's not unlike any other natural terrain where you may have to put forth a small amount of effort to explore. This place is beautiful , monumental, epic and unforgettable. AND very "walk" friendly.
  • So many great vista and a beautiful place o spend the day hiking.
  • Great vista
