  • In the path of Arab/Norman and Byzantine architecture in Palermo, you can not miss this church. The ceilings and walls are covered with beautiful mosaics in Byzantine style. you pay a small entrance fee, to see.

  • This place of memory, as the adjacent Square of shame, of my childhood, when I was passing in front of my mother was shopping in Ballarò and buy in bulk to Laiche. Middle School, and I did the judges ' drop-down to Piazza Sant'Anna, and don Nicolo Sadri took us to see the mass marriage in Greek Orthodox rite. Then adolescence, with Piaggio Ciao, balate slippery. Then in the spring of Palermo, in the early 90 's. And finally, again, when I go back to visit family and town, now in the leaf. The place has changed, now closed to traffic, much more valued, weddings are always there and there is also the wifi in the square. For me and I hope for my hometown, a source of pride.

  • La Martorana c. 1143-51 perfect example of hybrid style of Byzantine (mosaics) and Arabic styles. Pointed arches common feature of Sicilian architecture under Normans but origins in Islamic architecture. Dedicatory inscription on exterior is in Greek while concept and architectural form is identical to such from Muslim N. Africa. Some Arabic writing as well (bottom of dome) referring to king and his vizier.
  • This small church is a great example of mix architecture styles.
  • Cost 1 euro to enter. I enjoyed doing panoramic photos of all the art.
  • A small Norman church far from the big baroque churches of the nearby. But is a real gem.
  • half Byzantine, half reinessance. both halves: amazing!
