  • Piazza Pretoria also called Piazza della Vergona for semi-nude statues of famous fountain which occupies almost entirely space, certainly one of the most beautiful fountains of Italy. Behind the impressive Renaissance building of the Church of Santa Caterina and the fifteenth-century Palazzo Senatorio, said of the Eagles, the Town Hall as well as several baronial palaces. and reduced pain and in need of restoration, Ballesteros, across the street which is accessed by a beautiful staircase, the Baroque church of San Giuseppe dei Teatini, built in the early 17th century, insignificant on the outside but with richly decorated interiors. The fountain actually wasn't built for this square, but was commissioned at the end of 1500 for a Florentine villa, owned by Don Pedro de Toledo to enrich its beautiful grounds, but the death of the patron the son decided to sell it. Disassembled in 644 pieces and packaged arrived in Palermo on 26 June 1574. To make way for the fountain, several homes were demolished. La fontana however was no longer as before, some sculptures in fact deteriorated during transport, while others remained in the care of the owner, land consolidation and adaptation of the fountain was given in the 1574 to Camillo Camilliani, son of Francis, who completed his interventions in 1581.
