  • In this church we hit walking on the Kal'sa, almost reaching the sea. Beautiful church, performed in the Gothic style. "Catena" in Italian means "shackles". The names of the two versions. First, the church stands next to the chain which blocked the entrance to the port of Palermo. The second version of the more unusual-the Church was built in honor of the miracle that took place in the year 1392-several prisoners prayed to the Theotokos for release from detention, and were actually released, shackled literally melted in the Sun.

  • Church near the Cala, charming and understated. Indoors with low light. simple but austere. The staircase is particularly steep and slippery, in fact during the marriage is forbidden to throw the rice!

  • One of the greatest examples of Renaissance of Palermo is the Church of Santa Maria della Catena, built in Gothic-Catalan style between the end of 1400 and the first decades of 1500. It owes its name to the great chain which was near and it closed in the middle ages the port of Cala, to protect it from raids. The Church is reached by a wide flight of steps overlooking the sea. The Interior, with three naves and columns on which rest the arches catalani, boasts 16th-century reliefs attributed to inter alia Gagini, the painting "Saint Brigid in glory", frescoes by Olivio Sozzi, the fresco of the fourteenth century. the "Lady of grace with baby Jesus in her arms." The Virgin holding the child-like adult, because according to the Byzantine tradition Jesus for his wisdom he could never have been in fact baby is depicted with a bald head to highlight the wisdom.
