  • Right in the Centre of the popular market of Ballarò, amid the shoals of fish and fruit and vegetable vendors, the dome covered with glazed tiles with colors that evoke the Arab style, one of the coolest realizations of Sicilian Baroque, the Chiesa del Carmine, built by the Carmelites in the late 12th century, destroyed and rebuilt entirely in ' 600 and designed by the architect Mariano Smiriglio. Inside the Church aisles to be observed, in particular, the stoup and chapels with statues of Gagini, the stucco decoration of the chapel of Saint Andrew Corsini brothers Serpotta, with a famous painting by Pietro Novelli

  • The dome of Carmine Maggiore is undoubtedly the most beautiful part of Palermo, the distinguishing feature of each photo from the top of the historical center. The Interior is wonderful (although still in bad condition), especially the decoration of the altar by Serpotta is magnificent. The vote will be full when you will be doing a full restoration of the façade and inside.

  • The Carmelite Church, rebuilt in 1626 on a pre-existing medieval, shows a unique dome, completed in 1681 by the drum and the ornate dome covered with polychrome earthenware. The façade was redone in 1814 shows in a niche above the our Lady of Mount Carmel, a magnificent work. Note, on the inside, the chapels of the transept is beautifully decorated by Giacomo Serpotta

  • Cost 1 euro to enter. I enjoyed doing panoramic photos of all the art.
  • A small Norman church far from the big baroque churches of the nearby. But is a real gem.
  • half Byzantine, half reinessance. both halves: amazing!
  • Norman church built by Arab masons and decorated by Byzantine craftsmen. A must see.
  • This was a really interesting church which juxtaposed two styles of architecture in its interior. The mosaics were very intricate and the frescoes very beautiful.
