  • Along the road from downtown leads to Cuba, we run into this building from unusual name and intrigued we enter to take a look. Inside there is a beautiful courtyard surrounded by a portico on one side and a 17th century Church. The ladies (all three very nice) that act as caretakers/guides tell us that the Church was founded by the Prince of Palagonia in order to welcome the poor, disabled, homeless and orphaned and later, at the end of 1800, was used only in women's shelter and the name was changed to Albergo delle Povere, as you can read on the façade of the building. The visit is free and only takes a few minutes. It is not a milestone, but it's worth it to see something outside of the classics tour and that not everybody knows (even many of palermitani).

  • It is one of those places where you can happen just by chance. Intrigued by a modest sign that reads "Albergo delle Povere" walked in and inside we found a vast complex only partially open (partly owned by the region of Sicily and a part of the Diocesan Curia). Staff friendly and helpful in their faculty sin that the Church is closed and is open only for weddings

  • Drew attention to the building from the hospital, which was founded in the 18th century, during a walk through the Centre of Palermo. Found by chance before that nothing about this place is not heard. Quite a nice courtyard, also remembered here is very beautiful 18th century church dedicated to the Virgin Mary.
