  • I was in Palazzolo Acreide in January for the festival of San Paolo. The highlight was the event in the church just before and as the statue of Saint Paul was revealed. It's displayed only twice a yea...  more »
  • Yet another beautiful baroque church. Suggests that a country of just over 8,000 inhabitants, possess two of the most beautiful baroque churches of Sicily: Saint Sebastian and Saint Paul. The beauty of St Paul's Church is given, only, from the façade. Ilcollonnato, with Corinthian columns, protects the entrance and on it rests the heavy belfry. The strength of the collection is mitigated the statue of a Christ Pantocrator and the Holy Apostles and the wrought iron balconies running along the entire circumference of the façade. Even in the case of São Paulo, the inhabitants of Palazzolo organises a party imposing for 29 June. They say, you can't miss it.

  • It was rebuilt in the mid-18th century, after the earthquake of 1693, in an area where it previously occurred a small church dedicated to Saint Sophia. The façade is a fine example of local Baroque. Equally valuable are the staircase and the bronze Portal depicting the life of the Patron Saint and the rich sculptural decoration. Remarkable also the inside. Sao Paulo was elected "Patron Saint" of Palazzolo in September 1688.
