  • Small site but has a wonderful theater which is well preserved and stone quarry with graves. There are remains of a roman road which can easily be seen  more »
  • The archaeological area of ancient Akrai, outpost/colony of Syracuse, though it suffered extensive looting, still retains its charm. The only evidence are the beautiful Greek theater, the bouleterion, and the temple at the top. Countless Byzantine which remain above all the testimony, however, burial areas, some of which are truly amazing. The view is very nice and it's a nice place to take a walk in peace in nature and history. I took so many pictures and I really relaxed during the visit of Akrai. I arrived on foot from the bus stop, but the distance and the steep final ascent were well rewarded. In the city the signs are many and very precise, make no mistake. As long as you climb, all good:) I thank the folks at site for letting me visit the area of "sa" fascinating monument for lovers of Archeology.

  • We had planned a trip to the area and was expected to visit the archaeological area. We had called the tourist office and they had provided some indications that then were completely disregarded. I have been to dozens of museums and monuments of Europe and never happened to me that seniors from 65 years and older and children less than 18 years pay a full fare, teachers with reduced ticket prices by one euro. To not understand that when you make a visit of a group (in this case of 80 people, with minors, seniors, teachers, etc.) usually apply a flat rate. Counter attendant, then such arrogance Ms Francesca Tan, had no limits. Was added to the disorganization: no sign purposes only, no person at the entrance, overgrown site etc. so tourists flee!
