Once an ancient Greek city founded by colonists, Museo Archeologico Nazionale di Paestum touts three well-preserved temples dedicated to Hera and Poseidon. The Doric columns that once held the roofs stand tall, though only a portion of the roofs remain. The city's defensive walls of the city are partially standing, along with 24 square watchtowers. Four of the original 28 towers were destroyed when the addition of an 18th-century road cut the city in two. Wander the ruins freely on your own, but wear comfortable walking shoes for the dusty terrain. • The archeological complex at Paestum is on my list of "must sees" near the Amalfi Coast. It is worth hiring a driver to get there, or to drive. There are temples and buildings built at various times. The archeological museum has some marvelous artifacts, most notably the Diver. There are some vases as well as the honey that they contained. Worth many hours of wandering. Be careful, the woman dressed in a toga wants money to have her photo taken.
  • amazing! well worth a visit, highly recommended
  • Good museum. Just strange work time.
  • Great! Very well organized, full of Greek-Roman finds impeccably maintained: vases, frescoes, columns, busts still show the original colors thanks to skilful restoration work. Prehistoric finds no lack of places in a dedicated room, with captions that show the locations of the find.
