  • Suggested by the infopoint of the Padula Charterhouse, we've decided to visit this unique place. If you have some half an hour to spend around Padula area, go and see the baptistery. It dates back to ...  more »
  • Magical place because it brings back in time. Allows you to imagine the past to rediscover the ancient christening.

  • Located on the border between P and Sala Consilina, we visited on the advice of our innkeeper. Unique, is the only one in the world that uses the baptismal water attingendola directly from the source on which it sits. Its construction dates back to the first centuries of Christianity, built out of an area considered sacred already in ancient times, the plaster, you can see fragments of frescoes depicting Saints. Interesting.

  • One of the most fascinating and beautiful I have ever seen. It is true that is not valued very much, that the area looks a bit left to itself, but it is also true that found it to be clean (despite the pigeons) and the wooden structures are in excellent condition. Gorgeous view of the water inside the structure. Very unique whole story, described in great detail in the cases. Some pairs of pigeons have decided to make their nest inside the baptistery, but their presence is more than acceptable. If you're in the area or are planning a small tour, don't miss this stage: is it worth it!

  • Is undefined and, not unreasonably, a treasure trove of history, culture and religion. Paleocritiano is the baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte, located on the border between P and Sala Consilina. The early Christian baptistery of San Giovanni in Fonte is the only one in the world that uses the baptismal water attingendola directly from the source on which it sits, its construction dates from the fourth century after Christ. Was done in an area considered sacred already in ancient times for the presence of a source dedicated to pagan cult of the nymph Leucothea, detail why we are told by the Roman historian Aurelius Cassiodorus. The oldest part of the building is certainly the one where is the tub (baptismal) in which they plunged catechumens for baptism, while other properties, such as the portico, they reported the adjustments and additions commissioned by those (the Templars, the Salian, the local clergy) who used this architectural complex over the centuries. Here and there, on the blackened and cracked plaster, there are fragments of frescoes depicting the evangelists and a theory of hieratic figures of Saints. Located in the site of Marcellianum, a suburb of the Roman city of Cosilinum, today the monument as a whole as well as came changing through various interventions during the centuries around the original layout of the baptismal font. And, after restoration made by 1985, has now been restored to its full functionality. Visitors at the Certosa di Padula or at Pertosa caves can easily reach the baptistery and appreciate its beauty and originality.

  • Beautiful place. Well worth a visit. .. too bad it's poorly maintained and virtually abandoned to itself. Is the classic example of a waste of public money spent on the renovation of the place and then left to carelessness

  • Is a very beautiful place nestled in the countryside. The clear spring water surrounds the building and houses a small fauna. Some pigeons have elected the place seed with all adverse effects of the event.

  • the early Christian baptistery of San Giovanni is a monument of great beauty and spirituality as spring water flowing between its foundations. No less fascinating is the investiture in Knight Templar that here, by election, held ... Christian monument older than the equally beautiful Chartreuse du P. To visit the great CMU decorum .... then restore the limbs in the cozy cottage that is aggianco.
