Piazza dei Signori, Padua

(4.7/5 based on 550+ reviews on the web)
Piazza dei Signori contains, among other attractions, the impressive facade of the Church of St. Clement from the late 12th century. Considered the most important plaza in Padua, this square hosted both the defeats and triumphs over the centuries of the city’s history. The clock tower designed by Giovanni Maria Falconetto and completed in 1532 still displays both the time and astronomical information. As the place where locals and those in the know meet up to have a drink, snack, or meal with a view, you can enjoy yourself just watching the people. Our Padua vacation builder makes visiting Piazza dei Signori and other Padua attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • The Piazza dei Signori is located in Padua in the historic city. There are the loggia della Gran Guardia and the Palazzo del Capitano in the magnificent portal of the 16th century. The palazzo del Capitano is surmounted by the Tower of the clock, due to Giovanni Maria Falconetto (1532). The clock, which would be the oldest in Italy, marks hours, days, months, the phases of the Moon and astrological signs. It still works with its mechanisms of origin. Have you noticed? : Among the signs of the Zodiac, Libra is absent. (The scorpion he swallowed it?) It would be said to be a form of revenge of its constructor against the population padovane, judged too bad debtor. Here, café terraces await you for an aperitif or a drink.

  • One of Padua's gems. It is very nice in late afternoon light. Definitely a great place to sit and have a drink and just relax in nice weather.  more »
  • Can easily be reached on foot. This is where people focus more given the large abundance of bars and tables. Worth the walk and admire the clock tower.

  • One of several piazze in a chain thru the old city. This one has a number of cafes and restaurants with nice views of the historic buildings.
  • ok, but not very wow
  • great medieval market
  • Piazza dei Signori large and charming with the clock tower on the West side. To stop sitting on steps and observe calmly days and evenings. On Saturdays and Sundays quiet almost from another era.

  • One of the many squares that Padua has. Maybe not the most beautiful but certainly the most eventful weekend evenings
