  • Padua has much to offer, but staying here a bit longer you may enjoy this little museum, with a richt collection of what they call 'precinema' but what is in practice the visual culture of 'Magic Lant...  more »
  • We visited this small museum at the request of my son and found a gem. The owner has collected thousands of shop Windows for magic lanterns and unfortunately only a small part is exposed due to space limitations, there are other tools for optical toys and lots of interesting trivia that we have been explaining to a very helpful and knowledgeable staff that greeted us at the entrance.

  • This small museum, located on the top floor of the palazzo Angeli in Prato della Valle is a huge treat that embodies a magnificent private collection of precinema-era tools. Thanks to the great passion of the owner who has racked up more than 10,000 original pieces, you get a chance to see a past made of: glass projection, the new world with its optical views, a collection of optical toys, magic lanterns, caledidoscopi, thaumatropes, anamorphosis, toy lanterns and musical instruments. You are greeted by friendly staff and prepared, which very simply explain the different uses of these wonderful old units to charm people with movements and three-dimensional pictures of faraway places not known yet at all. We continue with a tube and then open partial collection, and can also interact with some pieces.

  • The best Museum on the evolution that led to the Lumière brothers I've ever seen: it isn't the Museum of Turin in a mouthful (and graduated in cinema).
