Erasmo da Narni said Gattamelata positioned in front of the Holy (Antonio) appears to protect with its grandeur the basilica, this captain of ventura who stood to defend Padua. well worth a visit.

Lying opposite the Basilica and was constructed as a Cenotaph in memory of Erasmo da Narni named and Gattameleta and was a leader of the Venetian Republic. Nicknamed Gattamelata due either from the surname of his mother Camilla Gattelli either according to the biographer, Giovanni Eroli, the sweetness of his ways in combination with cunning. Recently a new theory asserts that at the top of the helmet had shape reminiscent of cat and color very close to honey. The monument is situated there was that old cemetery. The place is not random but was placed in a spot that passes many people and can be observed from many points. The statue is by mproynzo, an authentic revolution in the history of art. It was the first, the equestrian statue of big dimensions released from other architectural elements. The horse has dimensions almost disproportionate with the Horseman and seems to be raging but the rider seems to control it with ease.

Equestrian statue of the most beautiful in the world. A piece of history that is unmatched for accuracy in detail and great power. As a whole is placed next to one of the most picturesque Basilicas in the Italian panorama.

  • Its importance, art historically, is indisputable. An elegant an impressive monument that captures the political and social power structures of its day.
  • Smaller than anticipated and just a bit too high to admire the beauty of the piece. But quite nice nonetheless.
  • I disliked this was vewy bad.
  • Is there at your fingertips, whether you're in Padua will definitely pass around. Look at it and appreciated the art of Donatello!;)
