Cape Palascìa, commonly known as Capo d'Otranto, is Italy's most easterly point. It is one of five Mediterranean lighthouses protected by the European Commission. It is often visited by tourists, especially at New Year, since it stands at the point where the dawn of the new year may first be seen in Italy.According to nautical conventions, Capo d'Otranto marks the point where the Ionian Sea and the Adriatic Sea meet.

  • Board of exit, for those with a half hour free, from Otranto and to go and see the point to the East of Italy. They say we see the shores of the Balkans when time and sharp, I couldn't do it. Worth a stop.

  • It's well worth a stroll towards the lighthouse in order to enjoy the waterfront, part of the Castle and part of vecchia otranto, cute place.

  • Located a 10-minute drive from the Centre of Otranto, it is the easternmost point of Italy. You can park just in front of a military base and from there continue along a path that, in about 15 minutes, leads to the lighthouse of Punta Palascìa, which is much lower than the parking area. The place definitely deserves, even if left without care. The Museum of the sea, which should be in the Lighthouse is closed and the restaurant also. Advice to stop for about an hour or so, don't expect though tourist facilities.
