Torre del Moro, Orvieto

(4.4/5 based on 340+ reviews on the web)
Climb the 236 steps and treat yourself to an amazing view over Orvieto and the surrounding landscape from the top of Torre del Moro, one of the city's most imposing structures. The 47 m (154 ft) tower, now the symbol of the city, was originally built in the 13th century and first belonged to the pope before it became the property of the city. Over the centuries it has served various purposes, from wartime observation platform to the city's main water tank. Today, its clock and bells tell the time. If you don't feel like climbing all the way up, there is a lift that takes you halfway up the tower, leaving you with only 100 steps to the top. Our Orvieto trip generator makes visiting Torre del Moro and other Orvieto attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • My legs are sore the entire next day! It is many many flights of stairs - imagine when people had to climb this to ring the bell. The belltower still works but is now automatic. If it goes off while y...  more »
  • At the heart of Orvieto, at the intersection of Corso Cavour, via Duomo and via della Costituente we find a Tower open to the public which permits, after climbing so many stairs, a unique and truly breathtaking views. The view is 360° and for lovers of old villages represents a goal inevitable. Try and thank me.

  • When you get on top of this tower located in the historic centre of Orvieto, after climbing, yes it may be happy with the effort made in the climb. To view opens a breathtaking view of the city and the Valley and one can see the ancient power of the medieval city. There is a picturesque village of Orvieto as seen from above. It is recommended that they visit.

  • Great views over Orvieto and the Umbrian countryside. Walk to the top not too tiring (about 250 steps) and lift can take you halfway up.
  • Great views over the entire town of Orvieto, and - on a clear day - far into the countryside beyond. Well worth the climb to the top.
  • Great views!
  • With a sunny one understands what is the town
