  • This tour is a no-brainer, especially if you get the Orvieto Carta Unica. You go underground via the side of the hill. There are a couple tight spots, but's it worth it to see the rooms and get a sens...  more »
  • Very interesting, very prepared and sympathetic Guide. Ticket price fair considering that with the same ticket you can have discounts for access in other underground attractions such as Naples and Rome

  • To really understand the morphology of Orvieto and its appearance, it is worth visiting the underground with the galleries. Here a guide well prepared will explain the nature of the many tunnels exist and how they were used from antiquity to the present day. Numerous galleries offer a fascinating show to watch!

  • Orvieto is situated on a plateau of tuffa stone which comes from volcanic eruptions and is very porous and easily (relatively) excavated so when the city became overcrowded many centuries ago the people dug down to make room for businesses, storage, and food in some instances. There are thousands on man made caves underground, most privately owed. Graziella took us on an interesting tour through several caves along the cliff's edge that were mainly used for businesses, though one was utilized as a bomb shelter in the world wars, and another is believed to be a place of worship dating back to the etruscans. There are several sets of stairs, the majority of which are narrow and low, so keep that in mind. If you're staying in Orvieto for several days I recommend purchasing the Carta Unica ticket for about 17 euros which gives you entrance into 11 places including the Orvieto Underground tour.
  • This is a really great tour, it's nice and cool (temperature wise) in the caves and you get a good look around with some fascinating history behind them. They warn you that the second set of caves is a bit of a squeeze at times (the first is huge, very open ) but it's actually not too tight (in my opinion, speaking as an average sized 5'6" person) and would definitely be a shame to miss out on - it is however too narrow for anyone to turn around and go back, once you start going up those stairs there's really no changing your mind so FYI claustrophobic people, ymmv.
  • Great excursion to the tunnels under Orvieto, with its rich history. Very good english-speaking guide.
  • Can't believe how people live here century years ago. 🤔🤔😳😳
  • Cool tour!
