  • The story says that San Nicolas Cathedral began to be built in 1693, after the first earthquake that destroyed the Noto Antica, and which was completed in 1703. Since then, numerous parts made until the second half of the 19th century provided it with an eclectic style, with visible banksof and neo-classical influences. In the following century was rebuilt the Dome (which was not the original, product of the ravages made by previous earthquakes), which collapsed at the same time six years after the 1990 earthquake, and that it was once again rebuilt between 2000-2007 with lighter materials. Everything new that was erecting, resulting in an impressive facade into its mix of styles, which precedes a staircase of three sections really incredible and film. Towers of color sand, symmetrical columns but not equal, sloping ceilings and two large towers decorated with statues of Saint can be admired abroad, while there are magnificent frescoes and artworks sheltered inside. From the back of the square, near the Palazzo Ducezio, you can better see the enormous Dome, looming above the outside of the Cathedral. It is which fell in 1996 (probably as a result of its weight) and it was rebuilt using remnants of the original. In its interior you can see lighting, the space that provides its high ceiling and multiple windows. Among the art pieces, are just below the dome, the frescoes that adorn the roof at the rear of the Cathedral, depicting important biblical passages. One of the side chapels is dedicated to San Conrado, patron of the city, which has a silver altar with two figures of angels and the relics of the Saint, which are exposed in the celebrations in honor. Also on one side, are the remains of one of the many boats that transported refugees and that have capsized off the coast of Sicily causing the death of many people. The remains of one of these boats are exposed in his honor.

  • You can't go past in Noto on this building. Worth a look inside - and then waits on the Boulevard before an ice cream!

  • This is absolutely impressive from the outside. It is big, bold, and beautiful. The inside kind of disappoints. Nothing wrong with it, just not as majestic as the exterior.
