  • The earthquake caused major damage. They are working to restore but there is still much to do. Accesses from the Museum. It's all full of scaffolding and for security you enter but do not turn! Is Abbey with so much history. Fortunately the crypt was saved.

  • If you are nearby don't miss visiting. Fortunately the Abbey is already restructuring whereby for now unfortunately is not open to the public. But the crypt alone is worth the visit. It is incredibly beautiful. The Museum especially for the number of works of art and treasures on display, even from other places affected by the earthquake in 2012. The section dedicated to the scrolls. A special mention to the volunteers who take care of managing the property. Really prepared, friendly and helpful. Thanks to their Italian heritage lives on. Not least, it should be noted that the ticket price is absolutely honest. Rivredremo us when it will reopen the Abbey to admire it in its full splendor

  • On the occasion of Easter we visited the Abbey of San Silvestro di Nonantola and the adjoining Museum of sacred art. The Abbey and the adjoining monastery were founded, according to tradition, in 752 from Anselmo, brother-in-law of King Astolfo, and had a great importance in the middle ages as a Centre for religion, culture and agricultural development. Popes and emperors passed here's who donated to the Abbey large possessions. The Church, restored in Romanesque style in the early 1900s, is currently tight from scaffolding being used to repair the damage of the earthquake of 2012. The Church I loved loved loved the beautiful portal, decorated with Romanesque reliefs, the apse, really impressive and dating back to the 11th century and, in the crypt, the ancients pulvini Byzantines or Lombards. In the Museum attached to the Abbey you can admire numerous paintings, ranging from the ancient to the Malatesta, various reliquaries, Carracci sciamiti Byzantines, of illuminated manuscripts. But the thing that struck me most was a manuscript with the unique signature of the Countess Matilda of Canossa. Entered into a cross there is this logo: "MATILDA DEI GRA SI QUID ES", literally: "Matilda who is someone just by the grace of God".

  • Very interesting Museum. The Abbey still open not excluded the crypt, it is surrounded by scaffolding. Entrance 5 euros.

  • A big surprise. Very interesting Museum explained by a guide who pointed out the history of the Abbey for a good 3 hours, letting us take the entire hotel. We promised to come back at the end of restoration due to the earthquake.

  • To visit carefully reading the material on display. Too bad the Abbey is under renovation and you could see little of the Interior.
