  • Untapped tourist lake. Street circumlacuale incomplete for cars, complete for those who go on foot or by bike. Suitable for runners and bikers, with trails several, varied and of varying difficulty. Excursions (today only with caving guides) in the gallery that is the outlet of Lake towards Vallericcia and thus towards the Sea (great work of hydraulic engineering built by the Romans). Small but very interesting Museum of the Roman ships (first Sunday of the month admission free, otherwise €3). Remains of the Temple of Diana and the sacred way. Road uphill towards Nemi lovely, suitable for those who enjoy scenic walks. Also suitable for those who like fishing and bird watching. Small "beach" by land and grass at the end of the paved road (under the town of Nemi) with access to water. Many small "hidden" entrances along the banks. Only one restaurant at the beginning of the road around the Lake (below the village of Genzano di Roma) and some small cottages.

  • You really need to use your imagination and go back in time just to imagine Caligula ships floating on a lake.  more »
  • The fame of the place (the history, legend, etc ...) is so high that I was afraid to visit him. I was afraid of the disappointment: often I happened to see that the excessive influx of tourists ends up debasing the identity of a place, that for reasons mostly economic, tends to selling out to many visitors. This is the case for example. in nearby Castelgandolfo, home to the summer residence of the popes, who made the main street, an outdoor restaurant, where it is hard to come by and where a grocer was selling figs at one Euro each (approximately 20 euros per Kg). It is not the case of Nemi, where I arrived at time of strawberries (characteristic of the place), but this would mean altering the balanced poise. Of course, bars and pastry shops were selling baskets of strawberries, but as in a normal day. I was charmed by the peaceful quiet strolls through the streets of the historic center, enjoying the view of the Lake from time to time, a Pearl set in the mouth of the volcano. The view from the top is indeed beautiful and the scenery is still fortunately intact. But, I insist, intact is the social fabric of the village. Getting myself into one of the narrow streets of the Center, in fact, I happened to go next door to the workshop of a carpenter who listened to the road through the Woods, sung by tenor Gino Bechi, and we sang out above: a scene really of another era. Congratulations! Okay, but if tourism doesn't involve the degradation and loss of dignity!
