  • Dedicated to the Nativity of Mary, stands on the ancient chapel of Santa Maria dell'itria, name derived from forming "Odigitria", which is the name of a particular worship and Marian aspect of Byzantine origin can be recognized by a specific iconography, that is with the baby in her arms in the Act of blessing. This chapel was built on a former chapel of the God Priapus cited in the Satyricon of Petronius, as there were held orgiastic rites, foreseeing the next erotic settembrini Piedigrotta Festival, 8 September, the day of the Nativity of Mary. Also archaeological finds testify as to the area of the current church already practiced the cult of Mithras. The current façade was created by Enrico Alvino, mixing Renaissance lines to other Gothic.

  • The Church is known for leaving the station of Mergellina (indeed it was already off the Rails), with external appearance agreeable to the chromaticism given by 2 contrasting colours (white and gray) used in construction. The Church is ancient (dating back to the 14th century) but the actual aspect is of the 19th century. The spacious interior, not very bright, and overall pleasant, contains a table of ' 400 "the Entombment of Christ" and the 14th-century wooden statue of the Madonna and child placed in a shrine atop a spectacular altar. It is this statue to make famous the Church among the people of Naples because for centuries the object of intense popular devotion which culminates in the Piedigrotta Festival that takes place in September; in the past the same Royal family was taking part in the procession.
